OEM Ford Air Filters
Dirt, dust, pollen, and other pollutants pass through your Ford every day. A pair of air filters capture them. There's one for your engine and one for your heater and air conditioner. If you didn't have both types of air filters, all that crud would accumulate and cause problems. It'd get into your throttle body and air intake and deposit on your spark plugs. It'd gunk up your fuel injectors or carburetor. It'd even pile up in and on your HVAC ducts, fans, and vents.
When that happens, those parts start to degrade quickly. Clogged air filters are more trouble. Engine air filter blockages make engines burn more air and fuel than they need to. That means engine performance issues, everything from misfires and higher emissions to lower fuel economy. Cabin air filter blockages reduce airflow. This means your heating and air conditioning must work harder to get your interior temperature right. That stresses your motor. Air quality in the car suffers, too. Luckily, you can avoid all of this. Just change your air filters regularly.
How to Spot Faulty Air Filters
There are signs to tell when you should. One is a Check Engine light. Also, look for brittle, dirty, or congested filter fibers. Hearing weird engine noises and seeing too much exhaust smoke? They indicate the need to replace your engine filter. Smelling unpleasant odors during the drive? They indicate the need to replace your cabin filter. If you're still unsure what to do and when to do it, review your owner's manual for a filter maintenance schedule.
